Okay, I had to get a little Lord of the Rings in there.
I haven’t written on this blog in a long while. One major reason is because now I blog for a living at a dream job. I used my experience writing this blog to educate myself enough to get a job that I absolutely love. And what do I do all day long? I blog, mostly.
I have learned something new since dipping my toe into the startup culture here in Seattle. It’s pure gold for a blogger and I can’t believe I haven’t read it somewhere before. But this secret will take your writers block away as well as bring credibility to your blog.
Successful blogs all do this, and I don’t even think most of them do it on purpose. For some bloggers, it’s just a natural thing they do. But for us that weren’t born with a blog and or a typewriter on our highchair, this secret is something we have to discover and do on purpose. But, if you do it, you will find your blog gain readers, and mentions on some more established blogs.
One Secret to a Successful Blog
It’s quite simple. The secret is to become a Thought Leader. Don’t be scared by that term. Being a thought leader doesn’t require any kind of degree. It only requires thoughts that are moving conversations forward.
Let me put it in shoe leather for you really quickly so you can get out of here and go back to blogging:
Let’s say you blog about environment issues. You need to be a thought leader on environment issues in order to get other bloggers talking about you. How do you do this? Easy.
First, start by finding some top blogs in your niche, environment issues. Read their blog regularly and engage their community.
Second, when it comes time to write your blog, take one of their posts that caught your attention, and simply write a post that moves the discussion or point made in their post forward. You don’t want to say what they just said, you want to take what they wrote, and move the idea forward.
Third, contact them or quote them in the post, then let them know you wrote about it. If you’re knowledgeable and write good content, moving the conversation forward, you will get instant credibility in their eyes.
Be a thought leader!
